Dodge Tide
Scenes of Port Adelaide
This was the first exhibition in the new gallery and was launched to coincide with the SALA Festival 28 July 2010 to 22 August 2010
Peter Thompson’s wonderful nib and ink drawings depict maritime and harbour vistas of contemporary Port Adelaide and harkens back to a bygone yesteryear when the pulse of life ebbed and flowed with the tides. His eye for detail in every picture is evident with quirky characterisations of local landmarks, river wharves and his ubiquitous ocean tugs, lends liveliness to scenes somehow absent in our post modern Port. Thompson archives a slice of the now leaving us with the resonant pull between our past and future much the same as his beloved Port Adelaide struggles to shake away its sea faring heart to become an urban utopia.
